Comme dans tous les pays de l'EST Louis De Funes y est trés populaire,
la particularité de La république Tchéque est que , Louis
De Funes a été doublé enTchéque par un acteur
trés connu la bas : Frantisek FILIPOVSKY.

Frantisek FILIPOVSKY
Frantisek FILIPOVSKY was very popular Czech actor (1907-1988). He was acting
in a various movies during 30´s of XX century, being popular especially in
parts of student prominents and sneaks. He was theatre actor of "The Free
Theatre" leaded by populat actor´s duo Jan Werich-Jiri Voskovec. During War
II he was just a movie actor. Just after the War II he became a member of
National Theatre. He is going to be extremely popular both in movie and also
at radio in 50´s. His legendary radio reading is a novel of Frantisek Polacek
"We were The Five". He acts unmemorable part in a movie "Emperor´s Baker and
Baker´s Emperor" - the legend about Old Prague Jewish "robot" Golem - starring
Jan Werich. His second famous part od 50´s is a part of crazy devil in Czech
movie adapted comedy play "Games with Devil".
Later Frantisek Filipovsky plays lots of parts in movie and tv, and in
the start of 60´s he goes into dubbing of Mr. Funes. He becames his unique
dabber, honored by Mr. Funes as best dubber of him. Mr. Filipovsky was acting
mostly middle and small parts. He plays a part of detective Mrazek in a popular
tv series "Sin Crimes People oF Prague´s Town" - based on crime stories of
30´s, made on Czech TV in middle of 60´s. All 70´s and 80´s are very open-handed
for Mr. Filipovsky - he plays lot of comic parts almost in all Czech comedies
of that period - most popular are "Six Bears for Cibulka" - child circus comedy,
witch fairy-tale comedy "Girl on Whisk", student comedy "Marecek, Give Me
A Pen, Please", rather special is "Quite Enough of Four Murders, Dear" - a
parody of comic series: where he plays a part of US policeman - very similar
to Funes´s Gendarme by nature.
The number of Filipovsky parts is really incredible - his career counts
over 100! movies and tv series. Eveng being 80 y.o. he plays a part of another
devil in the tv fairy-tale series Return of Arabela, which is second part
of very popular Czech tv series Arabela from end of 70´s. But immemorable
is his dubbing of Louis de Funes. Alas thanks to comunist censore some Funes´s
movies were not alllowed in tv or movies. Like Adventures Rabi Jacob, Screw
/Harpagon/ or Cabbage Soup. Mr. Filipovsky did nod dubb them, alas. And all
the new dubbing tries of 90´s are instanrsigently compared with Mr. FIlipovsky´s
dubbing. There were actors: Jo - Jiri Ciesler (for private tv Premiere-Prima,
as I have Filipovsky dubbing in my private alas unprofessional quality audio
archive - see below*) Cabbage Soup - Jiri Labus Adventures Rabi Jacob, Screw
/Harpagon/ - Jiri Krampol, which reached something-like acceptable way of
dubbing, imitating Filipovsky´s dubbing character little bit. By my private
judge - even Krampol´s tries are not very good as for he was using just low
tember of voice, instead of Mr. Filipovsky was able to play all of sort of
the voice tembres. I have in my audioteque (*sountrack recorded on tape from
my childhood when therer were no video yet) a unique dubbing of 60´s when
in Grand Restaurand Septim Mr. Fune´s part was greyly dubbed by Jaroslav Dufek
made for tv broadcasting. But the movie version was already with Mr. Filipovsky´s
voice.
For your mention, Frantisek Filipovsky has a daughter Pavlina
Filipovska - which became popular small-form avantgard theatre actress and
popular singer od 60´s - singing also the evergreen song "There Were the Sunday
Yesterday". She was also acting and moderating various tv programs and revues...
Now she plays in the private "Theatre Society of Josef Dvorak" - who is also
very popular comic actor. And the grand daughter Pavlina Wolfova is an investigate
journalist and moderator of Czech commercial tv Nova, moderating poplular
youth talk-show programm "Studio A". It is not sudden, then after 1990 new
actor´s price was estabilished. It is "The Price for The Best Dubbing Annual
Year´s Czech Actor Memorised to Frantisek Filipovsky" called "The Price of
Frantisek Filipovsky" - what signs as the best honoration of Mr. Filipovsky´s
art of dubbing, especially of Mr. Louis de Funes, because he was making it
so well, that no one other could dubbing this part and even Mr. Filipovsky
could not dubbing other actors - because his characteristic voice was immortaly
united with Louis de Funes. Frantisek Filipovsky never played starring parts
both in theatre and movie and tv as actor. He played the only one starring
parts in his life - dubbing Louis de Funes.
